I am thrilled to announce that our very own Mark Conley-Buchsieb has enthusiastically accepted my offer to serve as GAIA’s next Development Director. Mark is well known to the GAIA family, having excelled in his prior roles as Program Officer & Grants Manager over the past several years. Mark brings palpable passion for GAIA’s mission and programs, a clear track record of success as a grant writer/report writer/relationship manager, and a real commitment to sincere, positive donor relations. He also LOVES GAIA’s Malawi team and is visibly proud of his affiliation with the team there.
Mark joined GAIA in 2013, and has spent the past three years working with the U.S. and Malawi team to manage and grow GAIA’s portfolio of foundation, corporate and religious organization funders. Mark has two master’s degrees in English and a background in international education and public service. He is a Teach For America alumnus (South Louisiana ’02-’04), served as an English Teacher Trainer with Peace Corps in Mauritania (‘07-‘09) and taught English at Yuzuncu Yil University in Turkey for two years as an English Language Fellow with Georgetown University and the U.S. State Department. He has been a volunteer with HIV/AIDS organizations since he was in high school in Columbus, Ohio (including years working as an HIV testing counselor and a community outreach specialist).
When asked what he loves about GAIA, Mark says, “The people. It’s a privilege to work alongside such a dedicated, international team of Malawi and U.S. staff, board members, donors, and volunteers who together are closing the gap on global health inequities every single day.”
I hope you will join me in welcoming Mark to this new role.
